Eva Mozes Kor to Speak at Holocaust March of Remembrance in Houston

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 29, 2013 ) Houston, TX -- The Church at Bethel’s Family invites the Houston community to the March of Remembrance Houston on Sunday, April 7th. An opening ceremony at 4:00 pm will be followed by a prayer and awareness walk . A memorial service will begin at 6:00 pm featuring keynote speaker Eva Mozes Kor.

The Holocaust March of Remembrance is a nationwide interdenominational effort by Christians to stand alongside the Jewish people in their remembrance of Yom Hashoah, “The Catastrophe.” Following the inaugural march for the Houston area held in Kingwood in 2012, the effort has spread citywide in 2013 with seven marches being held over two days in the Houston Metro area on the weekend of April 6th and 7th. The Fondren area march at Bethel on Sunday is the culminating event of the weekend.

When asked why he and his church chose to host the March of Remembrance, Pastor Walter August replied, “For every preacher in the city of Houston, we can't go in the Bible without mentioning Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We can understand the pain of the Jewish people and we understand it a whole lot better than a lot of individuals. But we're only as good as when we're standing shoulder to shoulder.” As 2013 is the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, he felt it especially significant that his church participate at this time. Not only because of the similarities of the struggles and persecution between the Jewish people and African Americans, but also because of the support from the Jewish community during the Civil Rights movement. “That,” he said, “I assure you, we will never forget.”

Registration for the march will begin at 3:00 pm at Bethel. Those interested in participating may also preregister online at http://www.marchofremembrancehouston.org/central.

The highlight of the memorial service will be the testimony of Eva Mozes Kor. Kor and her twin sister were the sole survivors in their immediate and extended family of the Auschwitz death camp. They were one of the few sets of twins, out of over 3,000, to survive the experimentation of Josef Mengele. Ms. Kor is the founder of the Holocaust Museum and Education center in Terre Haute, Indiana, and the C.A.N.D.L.E.S., an acronym for Children of Auschwitz Nazi's Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors. This organization of the Mengele Twins has located and reunited many survivors of the experiments and is dedicated "to heal the pain, to teach the truth, to prevent prejudice.”

Car Dealerships Are Suffering From a Lack Of Trust and A Single-Minded Marketing Strategy

0
0

(Newswire.net- - Mar. 30, 2013) Portland, Oregon--

In a Gallup Poll from Nov. 2012, car salespeople only enjoyed a high level of trust from 8% of the individuals polled, 2% less than the members of Congress at 10%, while nurses topped the list with 85% of respondents rating them with a high level of trust, honesty and ethical standards.

“Trust is the currency of commerce,” Harmon began. “When you get right down to it, all 5 of the top reasons consumers purchase a car from a specific dealership {according NADA research} are trust related.”

“Number one: relationship with the sales person. (I trust my friend in the car business.)

Two: knowledge that someone else has had a successful experience. (My friend trusted them.)

Third: price. (Trust that they are not paying too much for the vehicle.)

Fourth: overall reputation of the dealership. (Are they trustworthy?)

And finally: technical superiority of the product. (Can I trust the product to meet my needs?)”

“The single-minded focus of most dealerships’ marketing, ‘Sale! Sale! Sale!’, is hurting the industry and the consumer,” Harmon stated. “Car buyers want to make an educated decision, not just a purchase. They do their homework researching vehicles in consumer reports, blogs and social media. But few dealerships give them enough information to help them make a trusted decision on “Where to Buy” a car. And too often the consumer falls for the hype and noise of a less reputable dealer because of it.”

In his book How to Create, Protect and Promote Your 5 Star Reputation Online”, Harmon calls attention to the wasted advertising budgets of businesses with ‘Poor’, ‘So-so’ or ‘No’ online reviews. Businesses pay to create interest in the products, only to lose the sale to a competitor with a better online reputation. “Your Reputation is only as good as your last online review.”

“I’ve discovered that a balanced marketing strategy comes from focusing on the 4-R factors; Reputation, Reach, Relationship and Referrals. Digital marketing on the internet, social media and mobile devices is an effective way to approach all four.” Harmon continued, “Most traditional advertising is Reach focused. They reach out and try to deliver their message to the consumer. In online marketing, ‘Reach’ is spelled with an “S” for “Search”.  What do potential customers find when they search for a car dealer online? Their reputation, or lack of it, is front and center on most directory services and social media demonstrates the relationship they have with their current customers and the community.”

“You never get a second chance to make a first impression and car buyers are going first to the dealers’ social media sites, online review sites, and maybe their website before they ever visit the dealership. Too many good dependable and trustworthy dealerships lose the customer online before they ever step on the lot because they haven’t made an effort to create and promote a stellar reputation online.”

“Consumers are using technology to make informed decisions,” Harmon concluded. “And dealers need to be proactive about keeping up with the times or face the consequences.”

City Comes Together for Holocaust March of Remembrance

Doug Stringer, Founder of Somebody Cares Int’l and Honorary Chair of the 2013 March of Remembrance

Invitation from Doug Stringer, Somebody Cares Int’l, to the 2013 March of Remembrance Houston

2013 March of Remembrance Houston
(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 05, 2013 ) Houston, TX -- In a ground breaking effort, the Houston area is uniting on the weekend of April 6th and 7th to remember the Holocaust in a March of Remembrance and to say “Never Again” to hate and anti-Semitism. A total of seven marches will be held over two days in communities around the city, six on Saturday, April 6th. The weekend will culminate with a march and memorial service at The Church at Bethel’s Family on Sunday, April 7th.

The March of Remembrance is a nationwide event sponsored by Christians who come together to honor and remember Yom Hashoah and the Jewish community. Yom Hashoah (The Catastrophe,) also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day is a national holiday in Israel and is observed by those of Jewish descent worldwide.

The March of Remembrance has its roots in the March of Life in Europe founded by German pastors, Jobst and Charlotte Bittner, in Tubingen, Germany in 2007. In 2008, the first offshoot, known as the March of Remembrance in the U.S., was held in Dallas, Texas. In 2012, the first march was held in the Houston area in the community of Kingwood. Hosted by seven churches with participants from congregations across the city, almost 1,000 people participated in the event between the march and memorial service. For 2013, the vision has spread across the city with multiple churches in each location participating in the effort.

“What is going on in Houston is really unique,” explained Ted Pearce, the National Director of the March of Remembrance. “Both in terms of the scope of the marches as well as the wide cross section of churches, federal, state and government leaders, organizations, synagogues, and schools that are participating in each location.”
At each location, a prayer and awareness walk will precede a memorial service where Holocaust survivors will share their testimony. Also, descendants of Nazi members will be flying in from Germany to attend several of the marches to acknowledge the wrongs of their forefathers and to express repentance.

On the morning of Saturday, April 6th, the marches in Chappell Hill and Missouri City will begin at 9:00 a.m. The opening ceremony in Chappell Hill will be held behind Providence Baptist Church on the corner of Poplar Street and FM 1155. The memorial service will be held at Routt Missionary Baptist Church, 11670 2447 FM, Chappell Hill, at 1:00 pm. Holocaust survivor, Lili Gordon, will be the keynote speaker.

The march in Missouri City will open at The Freedom Center at 9:00 am, located at 2303 Murphy Road. The memorial service will follow at New Hope Lutheran Church, 1424 Murphy Road, at 11:00 am featuring Holocaust survivor, Bill Orlin.

Family Life Christian Center, 2414 Spring Cypress Rd, Spring, will host the prayer walk and memorial service in North Houston. The opening ceremony will begin at 1:00 pm with the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Zoly Zamir, a Holocaust survivor, will be the featured speaker.

In Baytown, the march and memorial service will be hosted by Faith Presbyterian Church located at 3900 Main Street. The opening ceremony for the prayer and awareness walk will begin at 1:00 pm with a memorial service featuring the testimony of Al Marks, a Holocaust survivor, at 3:00 pm. The memorial service will be opened with a proclamation by Baytown mayor, Stephen DonCarlos.

Grace Community Church will be host to the march and memorial service in the South area of Houston located at 14505 Gulf Freeway. The opening ceremony will begin with a welcome from Meir Shlomo, Consul General of Israel to the Southwest; Grace Community Church Executive pastor, Brian Cowan; and Doug Stringer, Founder of Somebody Cares Int’l and Honorary Chair of the 2013 March of Remembrance Houston. The memorial service will begin at 3:00 pm with featured speakers, Ruth and Larry Steinfeld, survivors of the Holocaust.

In Kingwood, the march will begin with an opening ceremony 1:30 pm at Kingwood United Methodist Church located at 1799 Woodland Hills Dr. A proclamation will be read by Dave Martin, Houston City Council member. The prayer and awareness walk will end at St. Martha Catholic Church located at 3702 Woodland Hills Dr. The memorial service will be hosted by St. Martha beginning at 4:00 pm opening with music by Ted Pearce, National Director of the March of Remembrance. Holocaust survivor and founder of the Holocaust Museum Houston, Bill Morgan, will be the keynote speaker. Also speaking will be special guest, Pastor Jobst Bittner, founder of the March of Life from Tubingen, Germany.

The highlight of the weekend will be the march and memorial service on Sunday, April 6th, hosted by Pastor Walter August and The Church at Bethel’s Family. The march will begin with an opening ceremony and welcome by Pastor Walter August and Deputy Consul General of Israel Maya Kadosh at 4:00 p.m. Following the prayer and awareness walk, a memorial service will be held beginning at 4:00 pm. Keynote speaker will be Eva Mozes Kor, a Holocaust survivor and former Mengele twin.

Bad Customer Reviews Like This Are Unfairly Hurting Local Businesses

0
0

Newswire.net -- April 8, 2013) Milton Keynes, UK -- In response to a telephone conversation we had with one business owner about some of the highly critical customer reviews posted online about his business, this was what he had to say -
"It's unfair to judge my business on a tiny minority of unhappy customers that prefer to write negative comments about my business online rather than come to me to discuss their problems. I didn't even get the opportunity to correct any mistakes that we may have made. Ninety-nine percent of our customers come away feeling very happy with the service we provide, yet no one picks up on that. It is very unfair and very damaging to my business".

Sadly, this is a common reaction from many local business owners that just don't have the time or the wherewithal to both run a business and monitor, manage and respond to what's being said about their business online.

We know that some customers can be very demanding. And reading through some of the online customer reviews, it is clear that they are not afraid to leave a damning review if they have a negative experience.

But with many consumers now actively searching out the opinions of others before buying a product or service to gain insight into other people's experiences, negative feedback online can carry a disproportionate punch and maybe unfairly misrepresenting that business.

Ebay and Amazon are two of the most well known online businesses to use customer ratings and reviews as a core feature of their business model. These companies recognised early in their development the strong connection between what people say about products and services and how well products and services are received by other consumers looking to buy.

Nielsen's Global Trust in Advertising Survey of more than 28,000 internet respondents in 56 countries revealed similar findings.

It found that less than half of all consumers trusted television, magazine and newspaper ads, with confidence in these media channels declining by 24 percent, 20 percent and 25 percent, respectively, between 2009 and 2011.

In contrast, 92 percent of consumers said that they trusted recommendations from friends and family above all else, with the 70 percent of consumers saying that they trusted online consumer reviews, an increase of 15 percent over the past 4 years.

Randall Beard, global head at Nielsen commented that "Although television advertising will remain a primary way marketers connect with audiences due to its unmatched reach compared to other media, consumers around the world continue to see recommendations from friends and online consumer opinions as by far the most credible. As a result, successful brand advertisers will seek ways to better connect with consumers and leverage their good-will in the form of consumer feedback and experiences.”

Brand and reputation marketing consultant at Local Viral Buzz, Graham Cardona, says "with online consumer reviews so influential on customers' decisions whether to buy or not, business owners are naturally worried and stressed when customers leave bad reviews because not only are they difficult to remove, they are highly visible to other potential customers who read and are influenced by them."

Graham Cardona sympathises with many local business owners, conceding that "there is an unfairness in the way that consumers can leave bad comments online willy nilly, since the most motivated consumer group that leave any kind of comments are those that have a bad experience. The silent majority are overwhelmingly happy customers, which is why my company helps local businesses to redress the balance. We correct the imbalance so more happy customer reviews are reflected in a business's online presence".

But not all local businesses have seen customers leaving online reviews about their business. "It's still early days. Some markets have developed more quickly than others. However, since most locally listed businesses have a Google plus page and local directory listings, customers can leave a review at any time, which means that every business is just one customer away from a bad reputation online", Graham explains.

The recommendation from Graham Cardona for local business owners is designate at least one member of staff to be responsible for monitoring the business's online reputation. Spend just 10 to 15 minutes every day doing a Google search against the business's name and location. Any reviews found online, whether good or bad, should be responded to.

If it's a bad review it's twice as important that the business owner reply sympathetically and invite that person to call him or her personally so the complaint may be addressed. This helps position the business as caring and responsible and mitigates at least some of the damage.

About Local Viral Buzz

Local Viral Buzz was founded by Graham Cardona, a local marketer, brand & reputation specialist. Graham explains that the reason LVB focuses first and foremost on reputation marketing is because no matter what businesses do to get exposure, whether its social media or top page rankings, without a 5 star reputation, customers won't call you. We position our client's with a 5 star reputation, left, right and centre, so when potential customers search and find our clients online, there's no question "can I trust this business with my money?". We leave it to our client's happy customers to build trust for our client's business. It's really that simple, because when someone else says you're good at XYZ, it's much more powerful than if you were to say it yourself, which is what most marketing does.

Detroit Barber shop Owner Partners with Donation Cuts to Help Clean Gratiot

0

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 10, 2013 ) Detroit, MI – Progress is being made toward making the City of Detroit a better place, and that progress took place as recently as yesterday along parts of Gratiot Avenue.

Detroit is a city that gets a lot of negative press, and a lot of it is for good reason. While there are several really nice neighborhoods within the city, there are many more areas that plainly look dirty, leaving a bad impression on visitors and generally lowering the morale of people who live in the city.

Harlan “Jay” Bivens owns JaysFades.com (http://www.DetroitBarber shop.com), which is a Detroit barber shop near University of Detroit. He is a community activist who finds ways to make the city better. Within his activism, he co-directs the Better Detroit Youth Movement (BDYM).

Jay Bivens and other members of his BDYM group teamed with Clifford Kennedy of Donation Cuts to help clean parts of Gratiot Avenue. The project was named Clean Gratiot, and several volunteers helped sweep, rake, and pick up trash. So far, they collected over 25 trash bags full of trash and debris.

Jay Bivens also actively recruited several people living in the neighborhood to participate in cleaning up their own neighborhood while also sharing some of the benefits of the BDYM group.

Several people in the neighborhood lent a hand for a few moments at a time, and several more profusely complimented their efforts. One person shared, “This is the first time in ten years anyone has cleaned up Gratiot.”

Jay Bivens and the BDYM group help support many organizations within the City of Detroit, all of which are aimed toward helping make the city a better place to live for young and older people. He often recruits his Detroit barber shop customers to pitch in the effort to make Detroit safer, cleaner, and altogether better.

Finally Help For Automotive Dealerships In Portland, Oregon, from U B All U R Business Solutions

0

(Newswire.net -- April.9, 2013) Portland, Oregon -- “Consumers just aren’t getting enough information to make the best choice of local dealerships,” Harmon continued. “With 73% of car shoppers consulting dealership review sites before deciding who to visit, it means a car dealer’s online reputation really matters.

“Car buyers are using social media as part shopping process; 28% saw a post that helped them choose a dealership and 48% discovered a post that changed their minds about where to buy, while 58% posted about buying a car on Facebook.” Harmon recited more statistics, “With 70% of all automobile consumers going online prior to making a new car purchase you’d think car dealers would focus on making it easier for them to shop digitally. Yet the average dealer allocates less than 10% of their advertising budget to attracting and informing consumers online.” (Cars.com Expert Panel)

NADA reports a 3.4% increase in sales, March 2013 vs. March 2012. Unfortunately not all new car dealerships enjoyed this growth, only dealerships with a solid reputation and a digital marketing strategy got their share of the pie.

“Mobile marketing tools will play a big part in capturing sales opportunities,” predicts Harmon. “QR Codes can do so much more than direct a consumer to a webpage about a vehicle. Used properly, dealers can encourage ‘be-backs’, follow up with customers, and stretch their print marketing dollars while making it fun for consumers to shop and use their smartphones.

“Correctly applied digital technology can improve the experience and create a relationship between the consumer and the dealership.”  Harmon smiled, “Everyone wants to do business with their friend in the car business.  Appropriate use of Social Media and mobile technology can personalize the shopping experience for the user and still let them feel safe and in control behind their electronic devices.

“I’ve been applying the best digital marketing strategies for doctors and dentists.” Harmon announced, “Now I’m making my services available to Dealer Principles because they need the help. Internet Marketers Discover the Power of Pure Leverage to Grow their Business

0

(Newswire.net via Emailwire.com -- Apr. 12, 2013) Portland, Oregon -- “I’ve consolidated a lot of most of my internet marketing under the Pure Leverage umbrella,” Harmon continued. “And it’s going to save me a ton of money too. Goodbye Aweber, Icontact and GoToWebinar. I’m tossing you out for a better product.”

Pure Leverage comes with:

  • An easy to use Email auto-responder

  • Video Email services

  • Complete blogging and lead generation system

  • A stable fully loaded online conference and webinar platform

  • Training from leaders in internet marketing

“You can get started for as little as $1 and then it’s only $25 a month for a whole suite of tools. That’s less than I paid for just one of my other services.” Harmon smiled, “The best part is I find the systems to be more effective and easier to use. That means less time mucking about and more time selling products and services online. Isn’t that the purpose of technology? To make it simpler to do business?

“Since GVO launched the Pure Leverage platform in March some of the biggest names in online marketing have jumped on board; Russell Brunson, Bill McIntosh, Ewn Chia, Mark Call, Eric Welke and me,” Harmon grinned. “Like Mr. Iacoca used to say, ‘Lead, follow or get out of the way’. When the leaders in the industry see the value, the rest of us had better follow or get left in their dust.”

If you’ve been waiting for an easier way to do online marketing, your wait is over. And if you’re tired of feeling overwhelmed by all the techy stuff, it’s time to join the Pure Leverage revolution.

“I do consulting with clients all across the world and the digital conference room platform has so many great presentation features; it’s easy for me to look even smarter than I am. With draw tools and Power Point built right in, I can focus on my client’s needs and not on the meeting software.” Harmon said, “It’s not a hassle to have online conferences now and that saves me time and money. That makes all the other features a wonderful bonus, but don’t take my word for it. You can test drive it for only $1. If Pure Leverage isn’t the simplest most cost effective suite of marketing tools you’ve ever used you’re only out a buck.”

Bradenton Pizza- Bragging Rights

0
0

Gianni’s NY Pizza in Bradenton, Florida has always boasted its superior quality of its pizza and in general, overall Italian food.  So we visited one day to see what all the buzz was about and stumbled upon a patron that could not stop showering Gianni’s NY Pizza with praise.  Here’s what she had to say:

(Newswire.net --April 19, 2013) Bradenton, Fl—Pizza is one of those foods that everyone in the United States has experienced and has had a favorite location.  Most pizza places are not very exciting when it comes to the décor and its surroundings, but everyone has an opinion about the quality of the pizza.  Let’s face it.  If the food wasn’t good, there wouldn’t be a next time.  There are certainly enough pizza places within close proximity to make a trip elsewhere if the pizza did not meet the test.

Recently at a trip to Bradenton, where Gianni’s NY Pizza is located (it has another place in St. Petersburg also), we made an impromptu visit and randomly asked its patrons bout their experience there and what they liked about Gianni’s pizza.   A lovely woman who told us that she had never within the past ten years, had a pizza as good as Gianni’s NY Pizza’s pizza.  “The sauce, the crust is just excellent.   …and the meatballs were delicious!”  Having come from New York, Chicago, and Connecticut, she was well qualified to be considered a bona fide expert in the taste to judge quality pizza.

Most recently in a discussion with the owner, Johnny Colandrea, he talked about exactly those qualities of his sauce and dough.  The time and effort that is put into the fresh sauces and homemade dough where there is given ample time to rise and develop properly for ultimate flavor is a real different approach that Gianni’s takes versus other places.

Clearly, it was necessary for us to also try this outsized rated pizza and we found that it’s sauce and crust was in fact a level of quality and taste that was hard to ignore.  Perhaps finding the exactly right consistency where there is not too much crust yet enough substance to be satisfying and to hold its ingredients in place.  Then there is the sauce that has been homemade where the tomatoes are fresh and the herbs and oregano blend in with the tomato and mozzarella cheese at just the right points.

It is important to visit  Gianni’s NY Pizza Bradenton at  4925 East State Road 64  Bradenton – FL – 34208  (941) 896-9700 and find out for yourself.   http://www.giannisnypizza.com

Located in a 5-acre horse riding facility in Elfin Forest, the riding school offers full training, including hunter/jumping, cross country and endurance riding. Mega Arte stays true to its classical English dressage and upholds natural horsemanship skills. Their classes are created especially to budding equestrians who seek something more than an ordinary lesson to learn and hone. Alongside this, the company instills values in treating animals as human companions.

It is recommended that children spend their summers on the outdoors, says Mega Arte Riding Academy (http://www.ridingacademy.biz/). There are numerous summer camps one can enjoy, but having a learning experience which one can use all his life is vital. Horse riding is not just only for equine enthusiasts, but for those who seeks to discover what they can actually do through the guidance of an expert.

San Marcos horse riding training is an exciting approach in learning how to ride horses. Mega Arte offers a panoramic view of an equine community located in a laidback setting, which gives one the freedom to feel the air and ride with the wind. The camp offers various programs, which can be both applicable for grownups and children alike.

1. Basic horse riding and handling is a significant training for the beginners. One should understand the traditional tack, how it works and the proper methods one must know while handling and riding these tamed horses. One will understand how to prepare a horse for a ride, and how to manage the equipments involved with the session. Commands, riding postures and other techniques are also imbibed with these lessons.
2. Advanced horse riding is for those who knows their way around horses yet still desires to learn more than the basics. With Mega Arte’s classical techniques, one can learn the skills mustered by equestriennes long ago.
3. Horse care. Keeping the steeds safe and healthy is one important thing to make the rider’s relationship grow with its horse, says Mega Arte. Through these care methods, one can learn grooming, first aid, cleaning and basic animal behavior.

Horse Riding Training San Marcos instills teamwork, says Mega Arte, and each rider can learn its value through this camp. For more details and schedule, see http://www.ridingacademy.biz/horsebackridinglessonssandiego.php.

Mega Arte Owner Discloses the Benefits of Joining Horse Riding Training Escondido

San Diego horseback riding lessons at Mega Arte Riding Academy

(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 03, 2013 ) Escondido, CA – Homegrown non-profit organization Mega Arte Riding Academy leads horse riding training Escondido. Horse riding, professionally known as equestrianism, is a skill that can be traced to the oldest civilizations. Historians uncover that horse riding played a great role in the development of the human culture, creating a decisive point in the rise and fall of nations. Being used for war mechanisms a long time ago, people depended on these steeds for mobility and victory.

However, today, horse riding has become leisure. Handling horses in the present times still evoke with the similar courageous aura without the desire for destruction. It is heavily regarded as a sport, which helps sharpen the senses and one’s body physically fit. Mega Arte’s Meg Brown started horseback riding when she was just a teenager, wherein this hobby grew into a passion, and the passion into an opportunity in teaching others her success. Her website http://www.ridingacademy.biz/ highlights her success in being a patented equestrienne and her experiences in teaching horse riding aficionados the value of this skill.

Brown’s Mega Arte now offers Escondido horse riding training. In a desire to help the rider understand the horse, from the body language to gestures, she has gathered a team of specialists who hand down their training to a new generation of enthusiasts. Their goal is to effectively create a partnership between a horse and the rider, creating a unity valued and esteemed by both parties to break the barriers between two different species.

Mega Arte’s philosophy relies heavily on the classical horse training techniques, to which the aged experience has taught the young ones to gain the enjoyable freedom of having a relationship with their steeds. Alongside this, the skill bears other benefits as well, such as:

1. Better balance. Riding techniques always starts with a good posture. Not having balance sends inaccurate messages, such as doubt to the horse. Through this, one also learns proper posture while effectively communicating with his horse through gestures.
2. Healthier body. The constant movement of the horse and the rider stretches and contracts various muscle groups as they ride. This experience will help give the rider stronger muscles and better physical fitness.
3. Lesser stress. This experience is also declared to be good for one’s emotional well-being. Feelings of confidence, enjoyment and direction have been attested to be felt during the session.

Creating friendships with the horse and seeing a new community in a horse riding group also gives one a feeling of belongingness. For more about Escondido horse riding training and their schedules, see http://www.ridingacademy.biz/horsebackridinglessonssandiego.php.

Detroit Barbershop Owner Shares Business Success Tips and More at Detroit College

0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 04, 2013 ) Detroit, MI – Detroit barbershop owner Harlan “Jay” Bivens came to the Eastern Campus of Wayne Community College District (WCCCD) to give a talk at the Small Business Roundtable event last Thursday. Bivens shared a lot of information, including success tips.

Knowing that many people would like to achieve higher levels of success than they already have, Harlan Bivens explained that a non-profit group that he co-directs, The Better Detroit Youth Movement (BDYM), has an exercise it encourages each of its members and visitors to complete. It is called Multiple Alternative Pathways to Success (M.A.P.S.).

Bivens explained that M.A.P.S. helps people identify what they want, and it makes it easier for them to explain to other people who might be able to help them. He made the point that certainly people get their own ideas independently, but other people might be able to help, especially if they can see and understand the success that first person really wants to achieve. M.A.P.S. helps uncover those multiple alternative pathways to reach to reach those goals of success.

Harlan “Jay” Bivens owns a Detroit barbershop on 17178 Livernois Ave called JaysFades.com (http://www.DetroitBarbershop.com). His barbershop in Detroit has been open for eight (8) years, and he and his team took a non-standard marketing approach. He did not worry so much about trying to find the right advertising channels. He became heavily involved with making communities within the City of Detroit better.

Bivens immersed himself with other people who got to know him as a person. He mentioned that often there are egotistical and territorial issues that keep communities from growing. By working with the community as a person, he found that many people wanted to help him, often in ways he never imagined but were truly helpful.

He also explained that mentors can be a key piece toward achieving success goals. He said that, “Having a mentor is like driving at night with headlights.” When a person knows what he or she wants to achieve, they are more likely to attract the help of other people who already achieved that goal. Many people think they need to solve problems alone, but mentors can serve as a key missing piece to success.

Bivens explained another benefit of M.A.P.S. He said, “Unexpected events happen in people’s lives, and we don’t schedule them. They just happen, and they (often) take us off our track (to the success we really want to achieve). Having a plan helps us keep our focus.”

During his talk at the Small Business Roundtable event at WCCCD, Harlan Bivens also shared tips about steps students can take to get college scholarships, including announcing an upcoming scholarship fair. He even shared some key tips about how to interpret body language, which can help improve a person’s ability to know how to communicate with someone who might be able to help with a step toward success.

For more information about how to benefit from Multiple Alternative Pathways to Success (M.A.P.S.) you can attend BDYM meetings on Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Harlen “Jay” Bivens’ JaysFades.com Detroit barbershop on 17178 Livernois Ave, or visit the website for the Better Detroit Youth Movement (BDYM) at http://www.BetterDetroitYouth.org.

About Harlan “Jay” Bivens: Harlan “Jay” Bivens is not simply any ordinary barber; he is a community activist in every aspect of his life. He owns and founded Jaysfades.com and co-directs the Better Detroit Youth Movement non-profit organization. He makes people in the community have good looking hair while providing the community with care.

As a mentor and motivational speaker, not to mention an actor and model, Jay has created and follows a lifelong commitment toward seeking ways to create opportunities for people in the community, especially children and young adults in Detroit. (EMAILWIRE.COM, May 06, 2013 ) Duluth, Minnesota -- A group of nail polish addicts, who are very active in nail polish community on social websites, now launch a new nail art forum NAF. NAF was created for those who love having a party on their nails; it is a networking community for all those that have a love for lacquer!

Everyone wants their nails to look good without the cost and hassle (and chemicals) of going to a salon, it’s wonderful if all nail art lovers have a free community to talk and share. Three nail polish addicts, Jessie, Sophie and Elma created the first nail art forum NAF.

“We are active nail polish addicts on social websites like Google + and Pinterest, we love to share our nail creations. So we decided to create a new community for any and all laqueristas to share the Nail Art they've either created themselves, or the Nail Art that they love or want to try. If you're going to give constructive criticism, remember to be polite and helpful. Try to point out specifics and offer suggestions on how to do better next time. Some laqueristas are so excited to show you their designs that they forget to clean their edges/cuticles, this is perfectly fine, as this community is focused on nail art design, and sharing our passion. Above all, have fun and show us your favorite Nail Art!” said Jessie, a nail polish addict from NAF.

“We made this forum for people who love nail art and designs and create their own. You can post pictures of designs you like or made. Also, if you post a picture of a design you want to try I will make a tutorial or show pictures of the final results. I will also give tips and nail advice if you guys ask. I'm super excited about this community and hope lots of people join”, said Sophie.

“Hello! Welcome to my community. This is where nail polish addicts come to meet and greet and talk all things sparkly. I've personally been an addict for a few months, but I have loved polish my whole life”, said Elma.

Sellwood Westmoreland Business Alliance Uses Social Media To Promote Members

(Newswire.net via Emailwire.com -- May 8, 2013) Portland, OR -- As with most volunteer organizations the one with the great idea gets assigned to “Make It So”, which is just what Gus did. Each week one of the over 200 members in the alliance is featured on the SWBA’s Facebook page. “I make up a graphic image for the business being spotlighted with contact information, logos and products. We encourage them to promote a special offer or coupon for the business,” stated Hill. “As a printer I have all the tools to do create the image efficiently and after we post it to Facebook we encourage the members to ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ it on their Facebook pages and profiles.

“Since we started the program 3 months ago we’ve had an increase in the number of followers to the SWBA page and some of the spotlighted members have observed a bump in ‘Likes’ too,” Gus smiled. “Partners in a Healthy Community is the motto of the SWBA and this is a perfect example of that in action, using social media to create support within the community and drive traffic into the neighborhood. Everyone benefits and we’re healing the economy one local business at a time.”

By working together to promote each other on Facebook, the members have improved their edge rank, making posts more visible online and helping promote the neighborhood to a larger audience.

“We also post the member spotlight to the SWBA website. SellwoodWestmoreland.com gets thousands of views each month and offers more exposure to the members,” Hill continued. “The website helps us promote the Sellwood and Westmoreland area to the world, located just southeast of downtown Portland across the Sellwood Bridge on the east bank of the Willamette River. It is a wonderful community that we’re proud to live and work in.

“I’m thrilled to serve on the board of the Sellwood Westmoreland Business Alliance and foster community support for the place I call home. The SWBA meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Smile Station at 9:30am. The board is pleased with the value we offer local businesses and are always looking to add benefits to the members,” Hill concluded. “Along with the several annual events we sponsor, the walking maps, website and neighborhood kiosk we provide the community, the weekly Facebook Membership spotlight is just another way we serve our friends and neighbors.”
