    (Newswire.net -- February 6, 2013) Tampa , FL -- Beginning January 1, 2013 changes in Florida law now require all Floridians who are involved in an auto related accidents to see a Chiropractic Physician, Medical Physician, Nurse Practicioner, Physicians Assistant or Dentist within 14 days of the date of the injury.  If a claim for injuries is not made within that 14 day time frame the accident victim will not be able to collect PIP medical benefits and any injuries that may require medical care, but sustained in a motor vehicle accident will now be the personal responsibility of the accident victim.


    Other large changes in the laws have to do with limitations on some of the care that is available to an injured person or accident victim.  There is now a $2500.00 cap on benefits for all providers unless your injury is considered to be a medical emergency condition.  The Emergency Medical Condition is defined in Florida law under Section 9, Section 627-732(16).  Other changes include Massage therapy and Acupuncture no longer being covered under the PIP guidelines.

On one hand, bacteria, germs and mold need to be eliminated by thorough cleaning as a means of reducing disease transmission. On the other hand, using chemical cleaners, while effective for killing bacteria, can also be a health hazard in its own right, contributing to the toxic load of homes and buildings. However, microfibre is a comparatively new technology that combines low toxicity with effective cleaning.


    Microfibre cleans by removing dirt, grime, grease and bacteria mechanically rather than by using chemicals. The tiny fibres of a microfibre cloth are designed to get into the microscopic cracks and crevices that are invisible to the naked eye which provide a source of food and shelter to pathogens. The only “solvent” used with microfibre is water. “Water is the closest thing we have to a universal solvent,” said a representative from CarpetFirst, a London-based cleaning company. “All that some of those fancy cleaning chemicals do is to make water ‘wetter’ and help it float the dirt away with a bit less elbow grease.” The rest of the work is done by scouring, which is carried out by fine “hairs” in the cloth.

    Microfibre cloths are widespread and many individuals as well as cleaning companies have discovered the effectiveness of using these for home cleaning and office cleaning. However, microfibre mops are gaining in popularity and may even take over from the traditional string mop in the inventory of a professional cleaner or janitor. “Microfibre mops last longer,” said the CarpetFirst representative. “The old string mops could be washed about 40 or 50 times before they needed to be replaced, but the microfibre heads are designed to be washed hundreds of times.” This has contributed to another factor in the popularity of microfibre mops and cloths, especially for larger offices or for professional cleaning companies: that of cost-effectiveness. As microfibre mop heads need replacing less often, this means lower costs in the long run, in spite of the greater initial outlay in purchasing a microfibre mop. “And don’t forget the cost of chemicals,” said the CarpetFirst representative. “Microfibre mops just use a bit of warm water to get a floor perfectly clean. With a cotton string mop, you need buckets of detergent or industrial strength floor cleaner. That’s another saving right there.”

    Furthermore, as microfibre mops need less warm water to clean effectively, this lowers the carbon footprint of cleaning greatly, in contrast to the large amounts of warm or hot water needed with a traditional string mop.

    When asked whether the cotton mop would ultimately go the way of other Victorian cleaning equipment, the CarpetFirst representative had a surprising response. “I don’t think so. While they might not be as good at general cleaning as microfibre mops, they are much more absorbent. If you need to deal with a liquid spill, the cotton string mop gets it up so much more quickly. It’s a case of using the right tool for the job.”

    (NEWSWIRE.NET -- February 7, 2013) Syosset, NY -- David Lerner Associates News : Each year, the federal government considers making inflation adjustments to the maximum amount of money that can be contributed annually to qualified retirement plans like Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and 401(k)s. These adjustments, which are designed to help retirement savings keep pace with increases in the cost of living, are based on annual changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).


    On October 18, 2012 the IRS announced that the annual contribution limit for IRAs would be increasing in 2013 for the first time in five years. This year, you will be allowed to contribute up to $5,500 to a traditional IRA (or a Roth IRA if you are eligible), an increase of $500 over the 2012 contribution limit. If you’re at least 50 years old, you can contribute an extra $1,000 on top of this to your IRA, for a total annual contribution of $6,500 starting this year.


    David Lerner Associates Branch Manager Rande Aaronson points out that these limits are for combined contributions to traditional and Roth IRAs. “In other words, you can contribute a total of $5,500 (if you’re under age 50) to a traditional IRA and a Roth IRA combined, but not $5,500 each to both a traditional IRA and a Roth IRA.”


    In addition, the annual contribution limit for 401(k)s is also going up by $500 this year — to a total of $17,500. “If you’re at least 50 years old, though, you can contribute an extra $5,500 on top of this to your 401(k), for a total annual contribution of $23,000 starting this year,” says Aaronson. This is the second straight year that the annual contribution limit for 401(k)s has gone up; it also rose by $500 last year.


    At first glance, contributing an extra $500 a year to your retirement account might not sound like a big deal. But look at the potential impact this could have on your retirement nest egg over the long term: If you are 45 years old and make this additional $500 contribution each year (in the form of additional monthly contributions of $41.66) for the next 20 years, the $10,000 in principal you contribute will nearly double to $19,252 when you turn 65, assuming an annual return of 6 percent.


    And the extra $42 a month contribution? “That breaks down to about $1.40 a day,” Aaronson points out, “or less than some people spend on a daily cup of coffee.


    There are some other changes to qualified retirement plans scheduled to take effect this year that you should also be aware of, including some limits to the deductibility of IRA contributions.


    If you and your spouse are covered by another retirement plan (such as a 401[k]) at work, the amount of your IRA contributions that you can deduct (assuming you file jointly) will be reduced or phased out if your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) is between $95,000 and $115,000. If your spouse is covered by a workplace retirement plan but you aren’t, the deductible IRA contribution amount is reduced or phased out if your MAGI is between $178,000 and $188,000. If you’re single and are covered by a workplace retirement plan, your deductible IRA contribution amount is reduced or phased out if your MAGI is between $59,000 and $69,000. Above these MAGI limits, no deduction for IRA contributions will be allowed.


    In addition, the maximum amount you can earn and still be eligible to contribute to a Roth IRA will rise this year from $125,000 to $127,000 if you’re single and for people filing as head of household and from $183,000 to $188,000 if you’re married and file jointly. Roth IRA contribution amounts will phase out for individuals and heads of household whose adjusted gross income is between $112,000 and $127,000 and for married couples filing jointly whose adjusted gross income is between $178,000 and $188,000 this year.
