More Men Skipping Razors During November reports You're Not Stupid

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 04, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- In the spirit of charity, more men have forsaken shaving their faces and trimming their beards and mustaches during the month of November.

The movement, known either as "No Shave November" or "Movember," has developed an international following. Man of the men involved in the monthly activity have dedicating their actions to charitable causes.

"No Shave November" has its roots in a pair of men from Melbourne, Australia, who decided that they wanted the mustache to make a comeback and decided not to shave above their lips for the entire month.

The next, the group, which swelled to 450 participants, was able to raise $40,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

According to the movement's website, more than 854,000 people registered with them and have been able to raise $126.3 million.

Originally targeting mustaches, the nine-year-old movement now includes beards as well and sparked numerous debates surrounding men's facial hair and health issues.

Participants, such as Tyler Webb, who is from Springville, Ind., and is a freshman at Murray State University in Murray, Ky., thought it was a good idea when he heard about it the first time.

"It's the first time I could participate because [I play] sports, so I thought it would be cool to see how long I could grow a beard," Webb said. "'No Shave November' was a good excuse."

While the growing of mustaches and beards are the focus of "No Shave November," a supplemental aim is to shed light on men's health issues.

Even the women are getting into the act. A group of women supporters, known informally as "Mo Sistas," are supporting the men by encouraging them speak up about men's health problems to support the causes represented by the movement. Some even go as far as not shaving their legs during the month.

The women and most of the men are ready for the month to end.

"Come December first, this is all getting chopped off," said John Smothers, a Murray State freshman from Hickman, Ky. "'No Shave November' isn't that cool because it's itchy and causes ingrown hairs."

"Come December first, this is all getting chopped off," Smothers said. "No Shave November isn't that cool because it's itchy and causes ingrown hairs."

Dr. Dale invented and formulated a naturopathic approach to balancing hormones, which incorporates her own 24-hour circadian rhythm saliva test, endocrine rebuilding diet, homeopathy and meridian balancing. The "NuFem Hormone Rejuvenation System" is an advanced system of endocrine healing and rebuilding incorporating NuFem transdermal creams which is a new homeopathic delivery system. In addition, Dr. Dale is the inventor of the professional healing technology, NeuroPhysical Reprogramming®, which is now state-approved in California and a part of the curriculum at The International College of Naturopathy.

Dr. Dale saw the need for patients to deeply heal their body by releasing core emotional issues causing disease, therefore, she invented Neuro-Emotional Remedies® in 1990, The Meta-Wellness Home Study Program in 1994 and two music therapy Compact Discs; Synchrony and 5 Element Healing in 1996.

Among the curriculum she has written is the first "Homeopathic Endocrinology" Training. In addition, she has been on the cutting edge in her field, recognizing the crucial connection between resisted emotions and physical illness. A new book is in the process on hormone rejuvenation, which will give self-help methods based on results from thousands of individuals who have healed their endocrine system using homeopathy and Theresa Dale's anti-aging lifestyle.

Dr. Dale is a frequent guest on radio shows and over the past two decades has been featured on The Leeza Show, NBC News, Vogue, EXTRA, and Homeopathy Today. Dr. Dale is the founder of the Wellness Center for Research & Education, Inc., BioResonance Research and the California College of Natural Medicine. a state-approved institution where she serves as Dean.  Dr. Dale has been an international speaker in her areas of expertise, including Germany, England, and the U.S.  She is an expert in Homeopathy, a State-Approved Instructor, a Traditional Naturopath, a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, a Doctor of Naturopathic Sciences, a Medical Consultant, and an Inventor. She has been interviewed on National TV with Leeza Gibbons,  Caryl & Marilyn, Hard Copy, E-Extra, and Alive & Wellness. Front Line Leader Transition Training Course

$

Newswire.net – Boston, December 3, 2012- Front line leaders are your change leaders. They implement new programs, new actions, and process improvements. They are what make everyone in your organization buy into your vision and mission. Managing change, and knowing how to do it, is a skill they must have.

The front line leadership transition training course gives your front line leaders the ability to identify and utilize skill sets that manage change, motivate their team and meet your organization’s objectives. Through identifying what makes a good leader and a bad leader, and reflecting on their own skill sets to discover their strengths and weaknesses, they start to see what impact change has on them, and how to acclimate themselves. Then they take those insights one step further, applying the process to each member of their team, and through that exercise, learn how to present change, entire buy-in from each individual and direct the team towards the desired result.

Along the way, they learn the five key leadership practices, how to build strategic relationships throughout the organization and how to create an engaging environment for their direct reports. The goal is for them to learn how to maximize their impact on the organization through teamwork, not sole performance.

A Transition Action Plan, customized to each participant, gives them a road map to immediately implementing their new skills to the betterment of your organization. The Transition Action Plan is created throughout the course by means of exercises. In each exercise, the participant learns something about his- or herself, notes it on the plan, and then puts together a comprehensive course of action based on those results. The Transition Action Plan is shared with their manager during a post-workshop discussion. The manager and participant use it to focus their efforts on certain areas as the participant becomes a leader in the organization.

Leading is not always just by example. It requires an understanding of the behaviors that successful leaders use to obtain results. The front line leadership transition training course not only provides that understanding, but also provides the tools to use it in a way that makes your organization stronger.

The Emerge Group, Inc. offers Front Line Leader Transition Training to its clients.  Emerge was founded by partners Sheldon Loar, and Jim Wentworth.  Free webinar training is offered each month.  For a schedule of upcoming events follow this link:  Front Line Leader Transition Training Course.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 04, 2012 ) Tucson, AZ - Emerson’s Bar and Grill in Philadelphia, in 1959, has seen better days, but none better than Lady Day herself. In this performance, about four months before her death, she presents music plus biographical stories, remarks and reminiscences. Between the more than a dozen songs, she regales the audience with a commentary that is sometimes profane and ribald, sometimes poignant, sometimes humorous, and always cooking with the hits of one of America's most famous jazz singers.

Featuring acclaimed Tucson-based songstress Anna Anderson and pianist Collin Shook, this spare, riveting play recreates the ambiance and allure of a shady late-50s club and a legendary but tragic performer at the close of her astonishing career. Songs include "Don't Explain," "God Bless the Child," "Strange Fruit" and "Gimme a Pigsfoot and a Bottle of Beer," among others, some well known, some obscure. The Cabaret at The Temple of Music and Art will be transformed into this club, with some seating table style, and wine and beer available.

“By the end of her evening of song at Emerson's, one is filled with an unexpected joy.” – New York Times Review

$

Newswire.net, Boston, MA, December 4, 2012 --A management pipeline training course provides managers in your organization the skills needed to recognize, develop and retain talent that is vital to continued success. It is a way to implement an inclusive strategy where recruitment, assessment, training and development, retention and leadership programs align with the organization's business objectives.

The management pipeline training course focuses on developing managers of managers. Their role in the organization is to cope with complexity of long term goals and focus on the systems and structure necessary to attain those directives. A key component in that is the talent in your organization. Given the costs of attracting and training new talent, developing it in-house saves money and creates consistency in the organization’s culture.

In the management pipeline training course, managers learn five critical advanced leadership accountabilities:

  1. Selecting first-line leaders. Managers need to know how to avoid hiring clones, how to conduct a behavioral interview and the benefits of hiring outside and inside.

  2. Developing first-line leaders. Managers need to identify the obstacles that may prevent leadership growth, know how to delegate and assign leadership work, hold leaders accountable, and reward great work. They need to assist first line leaders in empowering their direct reports, assign jobs that stretch talents to challenge them, and coach them effectively.

  3. Fostering a strategic mindset. This process requires networking, building relationships and creating a culture of innovation and creativity. Managers are made to understand that risk taking is not frowned upon and can play an active part in strategic improvising planning.

  4. Managing, dividing and reallocating resources. Resource deploying can be a scary thing for a new manager. Learning how to do it effectively in the areas of finance, technology and support staff will ensure your organization is in good hands.

  5. Managing Boundaries. It is important that managers set clear expectations, lanes of responsibility and how individuals will be held accountable for their actions. It requires that the individual change from a functional to egalitarian viewpoint. Managers must make decisions for the good of the organization, not the individual.

At the end of the management pipeline training course, managers will leave with a 100 day action plan to implement their new ideas, skills and courses of action developed through exercises and reflection.

VANCOUVER, BC (NEWSWIRE)

Over the previous six months, the Greater Vancouver housing market has seen a decrease in the number of homes listed for sale, a gradual moderation in house prices and a decline in property sales when compared with historical averages.

The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) reports that residential property sales of detached, attached and apartment properties reached 1,686 on the area's Multiple Listing Service (MLS) in November, a 28.6 per cent decline compared to the 2,360 sales in November 2011 and a 12.7 per cent decline compared to the 1,931 house sales in October 2012.

November sales were 30.3 per cent below the 10-year November sales average of 2,420. "Home sellers appear more inclined to remove their properties from the market today rather than lower prices to sell their properties. On the other hand, buyers appear to be expecting prices to moderate," Eugen Klein, REBGV president said. New listings for detached, attached and apartment properties in Greater Vancouver totalled 2, 758 in November.

This represents a 14.4 per cent decline compared to November 2011 when 3,222 properties were listed for sale on the MLS and a 36.2 per cent decline compared to the 4,323 new listings in October 2012. New listings were 12.9 per cent below the 10-year November average of 3,168.

At 15,689, the sum total number of residential property listings on the MLS increased 13 per cent from this time a year ago and declined 9.7 per cent compared to October 2012. Total listings in the area have declined by not quite 3,000 properties since reaching a peak of 18,493 in June. The area's sales-to-active-listings ratio was unchanged from October at 11 per cent. "Home costs in Greater Vancouver have generally declined between three and five and a half per cent, according to property type, since reaching a peak six months ago," Klein said. "Changes in house prices vary per municipality and neighbourhood. It really is good to check local market statistics together with your REALTOR."

Since reaching a peak in May of $625,100, the MLS Dwelling Price Index composite standard price for many residential properties in Greater Vancouver has declined 4.5 per cent to $596,900. This represents a 1.7 per cent decrease when we compared to this time a year ago. Sales of detached properties in Greater Vancouver reached 629 in November, a decrease of 31.3 per cent from the 916 detached sales recorded in November 2011, and a 40.1 per cent decrease from the 1,050 units sold in November 2010. Since reaching a peak in May, the standard price for a detached property in Greater Vancouver has declined 5.5 per cent to $914,500.

Sales of apartment properties reached 750 in November 2012, a 25 per cent decrease compared to the 1,000 sales in November 2011, and a decrease of 28.7 per cent compared to the 1,052 sales in November 2010. Since reaching a peak in May, the standard price for an apartment property in Greater Vancouver has declined 3.9 per cent to $364,900. Attached property sales in November 2012 totalled 307, a 30.9 per cent decrease compared to the 444 sales in November 2011, and a 24.6 per cent decrease from the 407 attached properties sold in November 2010. First Line Manager Transition Training

(Newswire.net) – Boston, December 5, 2012- First line manager transition training gives experienced first and front line leaders the perspective needed to meet the expectations that go with management responsibilities.  There is a certain attitude shift that accompanies such a change.

While a leader copes with change, a manager copes with complexity. A manager balances all the balls in the air that ultimately drive the change.

A leader works with the status quo, while a manager challenges the status quo to find what will improve the organization.

A leader asks what, but a manager asks why. Why does the organization need this, or do this?

A leader plans for the short term, and take the steps necessary to meet those goals. A manager plans for the long term, and sets the short term goals for which the leader plans to meet.

A leader organizes people and sets them to task; a manager aligns those people and resources so they available for the leader.

A leader motivates and inspires their team to accomplish great and wonderful things. They bring out the best to meet the organization’s goals. A manager administrates and controls those procedures and assets necessary to accompany the leader’s efforts.

A leader focuses on people. He or she know what drives their individual team members to succeed and meet expectations, and actively manipulates those drivers to optimize their team’s performance. A manager focuses on the systems and structures that enable their leaders. Those systems and structures provide the framework of the organization’s mission.

A leader follows the vision, and helps his or her team follow the vision. A manager communicates that vision to the leader and the staff, and delivers the support to meet it.

A leader works in the present, focusing on getting done what needs done in the most efficient and effective way. A manager looks into the future and provides the next goal for the leader to plan for, implement and attain.

First line manager transition training teaches new managers the skill sets, behavior changes and approaches to act in accordance with their new responsibilities.

New Era of "Food Deserts" Edible Plants from Garden Crossings Ideal for Urban Agriculture

$

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (NEWSWIRE.NET via EMAILNEWSWIRE.NET) DECEMBER 3RD, 2012 Zeeland, MI - Garden Crossings,  family-owned online retailer of plants and flowers, is now offering a selection of edible plants that can be eaten or used for seasoning and cooking. Plants like shade perennials are ideal for growing as an alternative food source in even the smallest or most urban spaces.

Garden Crossings’ wide selection of flowers, plants, vegetables and fruits can be used to start an urban garden that will produce a harvest within weeks. People who are concerned about the rising cost and sinking quality of produce at the grocery store, the use of pesticides in grocery store fruit, or who just want to get back to nature are encouraged to try growing natural products on their balconies, patios, terraces, or other spaces where natural light is available.

While many people grow their own fruits and vegetables in a backyard garden, urban agriculture is become more popular even among those without significant garden space. In some urban areas in places like Washington D.C. and Detroit, Michigan, “food deserts” exist, where access to and selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, roots, and herbs can be very limited because there might not be nearby supermarkets. Those urban dwellers desiring to experiment with new plants and roots can therefore have a very hard time finding those items.

Luckily, solutions are emerging for these problems. More people in cities maintain rooftop gardens or participate in community gardens.   Fruits, vegetables, and herbs can be grown in very limited spaces. Even flowers can be edible and delicious. Shade perennials like yarrow, otherwise known as achillea, can be eaten in salad, steeped to make tea, or sautéed. Hosta plants, or plantain lilies, are another example of edible plants that need minimal space to flourish. They can be prepared to eat in any number of ways, like any other vegetable.

Garden Crossings has focused its business on edible plants increasingly in recent years, as produce prices have spiked and people’s paychecks have stagnated.

“Gardening brought our family together, and part of the reason we continue to work in this business is because we get to spread the love of gardening. Growing plants and vegetables as a food source not only saves you money, it can help people living stressful urban lives to relax and feel in touch with nature. People who are interested in growing their own food can start small, with one plant, and get more as they feel more comfortable,” said Heidi Grasman, co-owner of Garden Crossings.

New gardeners can use the planning tools listed on the Garden Crossings site, like the USDA Hardiness Map, to help them choose plants for their climate.  Plants are also listed on the Garden Crossings site by their most useful properties; for example, a given plant might be billed as attracting butterflies or resistant to rabbits. Garden Crossings ships two different sizes of plants all across the US.

About Garden Crossings:

Launched in 2002, Garden Crossings is a family owned and operated garden center, offering the newest varieties of plants and flowers sometimes as early as one year before other stores. Based in Michigan, Garden Crossings has come to be known not only for its wide selection, but for its exceptional customer service.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 06, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- If you wipe down a keyboard five times a day, bleach your fruit, or disinfect your phone constantly, you may just be a neat freak. And you are not alone.

On a new TLC special Neat Freaks, the channel's documentations follow some of the weirdest and wackiest sanitation habit that come up in the most clean-obsessive people in the United States.

The one-hour show will feature Alfreta, a woman does not only take the time to clean her bathroom, but also public bathrooms, strangers' houses that she visits, and anyone else's restroom area she finds.

“Clean once a day, but once a day is all day,” she says on the show, premiering Wednesday, December 5th.”

She added: 'Bathrooms seem to be my thing, a dirty bathroom is disgusting to me. I don't care where you go, they should always be clean.

“I use my toothbrush to get all the little residue off the fixtures. I use three big bottles of bleach a week. On the sink, the bathtub, behind the shower curtain, but especially on the toilet.'”

Alfreta notes that she uses near a half bottle of bleach each time she cleans a toilet. She pours it into the take to keep “not only the bowl clean, but the tank clean also”.

Alfreta also admits that she is a bit bleach-obsessed “I bleach again, bleach is your friend people!” she says to the camera. Pouring a cap-full of bleach into a bowl mixed with water, she adds: “I use this bowl to clean my fruit. Any fruit you eat, from what I learned on the doctor shows, is that it's all contaminated with insecticide.”

Alfreta says that with an orange it must be washed completely, and then notes that when it comes to apples “..get right down into the core.”

The show also features a woman named Christy, who spends up to ten full hours each day scrubbing down her home. She appears to almost hyperventilate at the thought of someone stepping inside her home.

Cold Weather Really Chaps the Hide (and Hands) During Winter reports You’re Not Stupid

$
0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 06, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- The cold weather of winter can do damage to skin, as it causes it to become dry and irritated. Dermatologists state that the low humidity forces moisture out of the skin pores. This release results in a need for moisturizer to avoid cracking of skin, along with irritation.

Experts recommended that persons apply moisturizer after washing and drying their hands, to ensure softer skin, less likely to be plagued with irritation.

"We all have an oil barrier that we have on our skin," Dermatologist Jonathan Cleaver said. "That barrier becomes depleted during the winter time, so our skin is much easier to dry out."

Cleaver notes that people with higher pigment in skin are more prone to A-topic dermatisis, which forces the skin to become flared and prone to irritation during the colder season.

The top complaint heard by Dr. Cleaver is dry and chapped hands. He explains this is not surprising for two key reasons: “That's one, due to the weather. Two, the cold and flu season is around the corner so everybody's washing their hands diligently," Cleaver said.

He continues, “People think that when the winter time comes, the sun is no longer out there, but Dr. Cleaver says that's a myth! People forget that when it snows we actually get reflection off the snow, so you get an extra 70 percent dose of UV radiation that come off the snow or ice."

Cleaver goes on to say, "It's still important to protect your skin while you're in the elements for the winter time."

The doctor encourages individuals to take warm to cool showers and cut them to 5-10 minutes. He also emphasizes using mild soaps and cleansers such as Dove White and Leever 2000. It is also important to avoid any topical items that may possess alcohol in them, as alcohol is a constringent.

“You pat yourself dry, and leave even beads of water still on your skin. Within 2-3 minutes of getting out of the shower its really important to coat yourself head to toe in the moisturizer. that prevents the water from being eliminated out of our skin."

Cleaver also emphasizes the avoidance of hot showers, even though many prefer them during the cold season. He explains his stance, saying, "When you take a hot shower basically what happens is you increase the vascular flow to the skin and that causes more itching to occur with that," Cleaver said. "So you're causing theses inflammatory type mediators to increase itchiness."

Self-Storage May Not Be As Cheap As Some Think reports You’re Not Stupid

$
0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 06, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- It is no secret that these days many people own far too much 'stuff', and with the Christmas season fast approaching, many can be expected to be cramming more than more items into already overfilled homes by the time New Years Day hits.

It is little wonder that many are finding themselves driving to storage areas to shove their 'stuff' into metal sheds. The acceptable level of hoarding is now costing Brits more and more each year. That is because more and more individuals find reasons to keep items they do not even keep within their own house.

Self-storage units have become a steadfast industry, even growing in the last half-decade, as more and more people collect more and more things. It provides a way to declutter without the traumatic effects of having to let go of items. Many also have to turn to storage unites because landlords do not want treasured possessions being utilized by tenants, such as international long-term tourists and so forth.

Still, storage units are not cheap, and they are becoming more expensive. The price on an average storage unit has jumped up 20% in the last couple of years. There are also hazards that come with storage units such as obligatory insurance. Many also complain about a lack of proper security, with thefts being reported at sites.

When looking for a company to store units, individuals must keep a few strategies in mind. First, storage units can offer competitive rates and it is not a bad idea to play the market.

Second, insurance requirements can vary from place to place. You can cut costs by choosing a unit that allows you to use minimal insurance (if you do not need it) and does not force you to buy their locks.

Currently, a VAT is added to “self-storage” as part of the industry, and it may be cheaper to use traditional moving companies. The professional companies also use nearly 20% more space, making storage more efficient.

Managing Director of Aussie Man & Van, Mark Prout, says: "There is this foolish notion that self-storage is cheap but it isn't. Some self-storage providers have been ripping people off for years. People underestimate how much they need and the advertised prices are usually for a space no bigger than the size of a phonebox."

Big Yellow, the country’s largest self-storage firm, insists that customers get what they pay for. Operation Director states, "Location is a big part of the price, and self-storage offers instant access. The industry is driven by introductory prices but we are very clear and upfront about ours.
